The reference implementation is plain C from before sprintf became a deprecation warning, and this build promotes warnings to errors, so encoding.c stopped the very first compile. Third-party code does not get fixed here — it gets the same treatment lib_fido2 already receives: _CRT_SECURE_NO_WARNINGS plus warnings switched off through an INTERFACE library, because on MSVC the flags must land after common_options' /W4 /WX to win.
